Location
Havendijk Hotel is in a unique location. The hotel is located in Schiedam. Schiedam is a port city with a long history. As early as the 13th century, there was a dam in the Schie river to protect the land behind it from the water. The fortress that arose near the dam grew into a city, which would later develop into present-day Schiedam. Havendijk Hotel has converted the former library into a boutique hotel, overlooking the harbour. More information can be found here.
The Havendijk hotel is located in Schiedam's former public library. Originally built in 1980, the building is located in the city's harbour area. The architect of the original building took care to fit within the proportions of the buildings in the area, behind the imposing dyke. The transformation into a hotel gives the building even more allure.
In the 18th century, a golden age began for Schiedam. Dozens of distilleries and liquor distilleries sprang up and exported their products all over the world. The port was bustling with activity. The six windmills that stand in and around the city are a reminder of this period. As does one of the last breweries, located on the Lange Haven, which today houses the Jenever museum.
At a short distance from the Havendijk Hotel is metropolis Rotterdam with its quirky architecture and pleasant shopping streets. Numerous museums can be visited here too. A cruise through the port of Rotterdam, one of the largest in the world, is also highly recommended. As is a visit to the Euromast, which offers great views over the entire Europoort.
